The Oriental Rug and Textile Society (ORTS) was originally founded in 1977 to encourage enthusiasm and interest in the carpets and textiles of the Orient; and now of the whole world. We also aim to advance understanding of the processes involved in their creation and to promote knowledge of the traditional centers of weaving.

Members receive three Programmes and three Newsletters a year, with details of eleven events of lectures, visits and trips for each year. We aim to cater for the wide range of interest of all our members, including social gatherings. Recent lectures have included Persian Kilims, Ancient Chinese Silks, the Pazyryk Carpet, Daghestan (Kaitag) Embroideries, Iranian Kurdish Carpets, Tibetan Carpets, and Ottoman Embroideries by well-known speakers and authors.
