Textiles from the Balkans

Gavin Strachan will look at the variety of mainland Balkan textiles, which were partially influenced by the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires, viewing the story through the eyes of the British anthropologist Edith Durham and the Serbian painter Nikola Arsenović.

Gavin Strachan researches and collects Balkan and Scandinavian textiles. He used to lecture about geopolitics and is the current editor of Oxford Asian Textile Group’s Asian Textiles journal.
