Mark Flinn will talk about the remarkable career of his grandfather, Leonard Flinn. The Persian Carpet Man, 'Tajir', was Leonard Flinn (1882-1971), who made six extended trips to Iran between 1903 and 1944 in connection with his employment with Ziegler & Co, a successful Manchester-based business which commissioned carpets from remote Iranian villages and shipped them for sale in Europe and the USA. This book draws on Tajir's letters, diaries and photographs, and forms a valuable record of everyday life and travel in Iran in the first half of the last century.

The talk will be fully illustrated by Leonard Flinn's photographs from his travels and draws heavily on his letters and diaries.
