The Representation of Textiles and Carpets in Classical Persian Painting
Eleanor Sims is an independent scholar who makes her professional home in London. She holds advanced degrees in the history of art from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University and has worked in the Islamic Department of The Metropolitan Museum.
She has also taught the history of Islamic art; edited, with her late husband, Ernst J. Grube, the journal Islamic Art; and written the prize-winning Peerless Images. Her catalogue of Shahnama and history painting in the Nasser D. Khalili Collection is in the final stages of preparation. She has a long-standing interest in the representation of Persian textiles, especially rugs, in Timurid manuscripts and still dares to venture “once more unto the breach”…of this fascinatingly vexed topic.
