Louise Teague was a GP in a large inner-city practice in Wandsworth, London, for 25 years. Her husband Dr Ken Teague was the Curator for Asia at the Horniman Museum.
Louise writes:
Ken was a founding member of ORTS in !976, so we always received the newsletter. When I retired I was privileged to travel with him on his study trips, and threw myself into the wonderful society of the Oriental Rug and Textile Society, ORTS. After the opening up of Central Asia, and the collapse of the Soviet Union, we made research trips there including two to Uzbekistan for ORTS.
The Lakai, who claim descent from the family of Genghis Khan, were once a tribe of wild brigands. I am delighted to share images of the Lakai textiles I have been able to find. Please join me as I start to visualise the embroideries inside a Lakai yurt 100 years ago. I hope you enjoy seeing these textiles, inspired by the bandit-horse-warrior heritage of the Lakai.
